Lebanese President Michel Aoun told a US Congressional delegation on Wednesday that there has been a progress in the process to form a new government in the country.
“The formation process has made great strides as many obstacles were overcome,” President Aoun told the US delegation led by Senator Chris Murphy.
As he announced that the parliamentary elections will take place on time in May 2022, President Aoun voiced “determination to go ahead with counter-terrorism process and to carry out the forensic audit.”
The Lebanese president, meanwhile, noted that “securing justice and peace in the Middle East positively affects Lebanon, which is fully committed to the international resolution including 1701.”
For its part, the Congressional delegation stressed US’ “support to Lebanese people and the Lebanese Army.”
