The new Lebanese Government convened on Monday for its first session in Baabda Presidential Palace.
Addressing the session, President Michel Aoun said that the priority is for easing Lebanese people’s daily suffering as Prime Minister Najib Miqati vowed that the government will address the country’s fuel and medicine shortage crises.
President Aoun hoped the new cabinet’s policy program would include a resumption of talks with the International Monetary Fund.
“We are before national and historical responsibilities, no time to waste. Urgent solutions are needed to deal with livelihood conditions and to salvage our country,” Aoun said during the session.
He urged the new government to be one hand, recommending “less talk and more work.”
“We will face big difficulties and we will work on devising the possible solutions.”
Aoun hoped, meanwhile, that the new ministerial statement would include salvation plan and reforms mentioned in the French initiative.
For his part, PM Mikati said the government will address the fuel and medicine crises in order to “put an end to the humiliation of the people.”
“It is true that we don’t have a magic wand and that the situation is very difficult, but through firm will, determination, resolve and planning we can all, as one team, fulfill for our patient and grieving people some of what they aspire for,” the PM added.
