Speaker of Lebanon’s Parliament Nabih Berri praised positions announced by municipal councils and religious leaders in border villages rejecting Israeli claims alleging that residents of these communities sought to join the Israeli entity.

In remarks cited by local media on Monday, the Lebanese speaker hailed the statements issued by municipal councils in border villages and towns, particularly Christian communities in the districts of Marjeyoun and Bint Jbeil.

He specifically commended the statement issued by the municipality of Rmeish, “which rejected and refuted false claims by the Israeli Prime Minister alleging that residents of these villages sought to join the Israeli entity.”

Speaker Berri said the positions of these communities, along with their steadfastness and attachment to their land and identity, “reflect an authentic national belonging that remains unwavering under all circumstances.”

The Lebanese speaker warned against Israeli political misinformation aimed at sowing division among residents of border areas, stressing that “their shared concerns, suffering, hopes, and aspirations remain unified around ending the war, restoring their land, returning to their villages, and rebuilding what has been destroyed by ongoing Israeli aggression.”

Meanwhile, Speaker Berri called on the Lebanese state, as well as Arab and international actors, to act urgently to halt the systematic destruction and demolition operations in the villages in Bint Jbeil and its district, as well as in Marjeyoun, Nabatieh, and Tyre.

He warned that the scale of destruction and the continued Israeli ceasefire violations reflects clear intentions to render large parts of southern Lebanon uninhabitable, adding that such developments can no longer be met with silence.
