Prisoners’ Media Office: ‘Israel’ Continues to Detain 32 Gaza Prisoners After Sentence Completion

The Prisoners’ Media Office in occupied Palestine stated Wednesday that Israeli occupation authorities continue to detain 32 prisoners from the Gaza Strip, despite the official expiration of their sentences months or even years ago.

In a press statement, the office asserted that ‘Israel’s’ classification of these detainees as “unlawful combatants” allows for their ongoing imprisonment without charge, trial, or a new judicial ruling. It condemned this practice as a blatant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention and a war crime under international law.

The office further highlighted that prisoners from Gaza are systematically denied family visits and access to legal counsel, with no information provided about their conditions or whereabouts. It warned that their situation is approaching the threshold of enforced disappearance, stating: “Absence, isolation, and official silence prolong their suffering.”

This report follows an earlier disclosure by ‘Israel’s’ Public Defender’s Office, cited by The Wall Street Journal on October 4, detailing a sharp deterioration in the conditions of Palestinian prisoners since October 7, 2023. That report documented issues of severe overcrowding and near-daily beatings.
