Lebanese President Joseph Aoun held talks with Army Commander General Rodolph Haykal on the country’s security situation, with discussions focusing on escalating Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon and preparations for the implementation of the so-called framework agreement.
According to a statement from the Lebanese Presidency, the meeting addressed the Lebanese Army’s expected role in the southern areas as part of arrangements linked to the agreement, including its deployment alongside an Israeli withdrawal.
The talks also covered the army’s missions across Lebanon, the status of the military institution, and the needs and conditions of its personnel.

The Presidency said Aoun and Haykal reviewed “the security situation in the country in general, and in the south in particular, in light of the continued Israeli attacks targeting several southern villages and towns.”
The statement added that discussions focused on “ongoing preparations for implementing the framework agreement in the designated pilot areas, from which the Lebanese Army is expected to deploy concurrently with the Israeli withdrawal.”
Aoun and Haykal also addressed the army’s nationwide responsibilities and the requirements of its personnel, with the Presidency noting that the meeting examined “the missions carried out by the Army throughout Lebanon, as well as the state of the military institution and the needs of its members.”
