Speaking after the meeting, Egyptian Ambassador Alaa Moussa said the Quintet Committee discussed with PM Salam several issues, foremost among them economic reforms and the financial gap, expressing confidence in the government.

Moussa also added that parliamentary elections were discussed, voicing hope that they will be held on schedule, describing the vote as essential to restoring institutional regularity after a period of vacuum, and affirming support for all steps in that direction.
Moussa said “there are no imposed deadlines,” noting that the committee is awaiting the Lebanese state’s next steps, praising “progress on the issue of exclusive state control over arms,” and stating that Salam’s remarks were in line with President Joseph Aoun’s statements the previous day. He concluded by saying the situation in the south had been “successfully de-escalated.”
The meeting comes a day after the Israeli enemy stepped up attacks on Lebanon, staging a series of strikes on several areas across the country’s south. Two strikes targeted a residential building the southern town of Kfar Hatta. It was preceded by a so-called “evacuation order” by the Israeli occupation army.
Later on Sunday, an Israeli drone killed a municipal councilor in the southern border town of Bint Jbeil, after targeting his car.
