Speaker Berri Voices Deep Pessimism Over So-Called Framework Deal as Southern Attacks Persist

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has expressed profound pessimism regarding the prospects of achieving decisive and positive results from the so-called framework agreement between the Lebanese government and ‘Israel’, pointing to relentless military activity in the country’s south as a major obstacle.

In a press statement on Saturday, Berri highlighted the volatile situation in the town of Zawtar al-Gharbiya as a stark indicator of continued complications. He noted that residents had been forced to wait for days merely to gain temporary access to their villages, even as Israeli attacks persisted in the area.

Speaker further questioned how long a comprehensive Israeli withdrawal and the safe return of southerners to their homes would take, given the ongoing violations and relentless strikes targeting the border region. His remarks underscored growing frustration over the widening gap between diplomatic efforts and the realities on the ground.
