Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Monday told UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk that ongoing Israeli destruction of homes and bulldozing of villages in southern Lebanon constitute “a direct violation of human rights” and a breach of international laws and norms, calling for international action to halt the practices.
Aoun said ‘Israel’ had also targeted religious and heritage sites, arguing that such actions reflect “premeditated intentions against both people and property, particularly as these sites are not military facilities and do not contain armed presence,” according to a statement issued by the Lebanese Presidency.

Aoun reaffirmed, meanwhile, Lebanon’s commitment to implementing the “Framework Agreement,” but warned that continued Israeli actions risk undermining the agreement’s effectiveness.
He stressed that Beirut “will not accept the continued violation of its provisions.”
For his part, Turk said the UN Human Rights Office is monitoring developments in Lebanon, particularly Israeli attacks since March 2, in preparation for a detailed report on human rights violations, read the Lebanese Presidency’s statement.
