Lebanese Army Commander General Rudolphe Haykal said ongoing Israeli attacks and violations are obstructing the army’s efforts to deploy in southern Lebanon, even as troops prepare to move into areas vacated by Israeli occupation forces.
Speaking on the 81st anniversary of the Lebanese Army, General Haykal affirmed that the military “stands ready to deploy in areas from which the occupation withdraws,” but warned that continued Israeli attacks are impeding its mission and complicating efforts to stabilize the south and facilitate the return of residents.
Despite the challenges, Haykal stressed that the Lebanese military establishment remains committed to fulfilling its national duties, including securing the northern and eastern borders, monitoring maritime boundaries, and combating terrorism, organized crime, and smuggling.

He said the army is also working to complete its deployment in the south “in accordance with existing agreements and national principles.”
General Haykal underscored that the scale of responsibilities requires increased support and stronger capabilities, describing backing the army as “an investment in Lebanon’s stability and the region’s security,” while emphasizing the importance of cooperation with allied nations alongside efforts to enhance self-sufficiency.
Addressing soldiers, the Lebanese Army commander praised their resilience under difficult conditions and reaffirmed the leadership’s commitment to protecting their rights. “We will continue to defend your rights in line with your sacrifices and those of your families,” he said.
