In a sharply worded address at a memorial service over the weekend, Lebanese MP Hassan Fadlallah, a prominent member of the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc, leveled blistering criticism at the Lebanese state, accusing it of signing a hollow agreement that serves as a political trophy for the United States and an electoral boon for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while Hezbollah scrambles to fill the humanitarian void left by the government’s failure.
Speaking at the Imam al-Mujtaba (a.s.) Complex in Saint Therese, Fadlallah asserted that the issue of southern Lebanon transcends sectarian or partisan lines, framing it as a unifying national cause. He urged all Lebanese, irrespective of political affiliation, to confront what he described as the Israeli enemy’s systematic campaign to dismantle civilian life through combined military, economic, security, media, and financial warfare.
State Responsibility Abdicated, Says MP
Fadlallah declared that the onus of shielding the populace rests squarely with the state, which, he argued, has not only failed to take effective measures but has actively capitulated to foreign pressure. He alleged that the authorities signed an agreement that amounts to nothing more than an unconditional diplomatic victory for Washington, offering Israel strategic gains without tangible reciprocity on the ground.
“The Americans pressured the authorities into signing this agreement to secure a political, media, and diplomatic triumph—yet it holds no practical application,” Fadlallah stated, questioning the legitimacy of the accord.
In a particularly explosive revelation, Fadlallah claimed that Lebanese officials were explicitly informed by the United States that Israel would not withdraw from any segment of Lebanese territory, at least not before the Israeli elections scheduled for October. He characterized the entire process as an “election gift” to Netanyahu and a public-relations win for the U.S. Secretary of State, allowing the Biden administration to tout an unprecedented achievement: a Lebanese authority willing to ratify terms favorable to the Israeli enemy.
Hezbollah Mobilizes Amid Crippling U.S. Siege
Despite the political deadlock, Fadlallah affirmed that Hezbollah is operating tirelessly on two parallel tracks to mitigate the catastrophic fallout of ongoing hostilities. The party is actively providing essential resources to families ravaged by displacement, village depopulation, and widespread destruction, aiming to facilitate the return of residents to their homes.
However, he noted that relief efforts are severely hampered by an American siege, which utilizes internal official levers to obstruct financial aid from reaching affected communities. “Everyone hears and sees the American siege imposed on our country,” Fadlallah said, emphasizing that every available asset within Hezbollah’s capacity is being channeled to the people, though he conceded that no material aid could ever fully compensate for the immense sacrifices and patience demonstrated by the Lebanese populace.
In coordination with the Amal Movement, Hezbollah is simultaneously pressing state institutions to fully assume their constitutional responsibilities. “When a calamity befalls the people, the state is responsible—regardless of the causes of the war or the assignment of blame,” he insisted.
Defiance and the Path to Liberation
Rejecting the narrative of defeat, Fadlallah struck a defiant tone, recalling that the Israeli enemy occupied the South in the past but could not sustain its presence. “He cannot remain on this land, no matter what he destroys or does now,” he declared.
He expressed confidence in parallel diplomatic efforts spearheaded by the Islamic Republic of Iran, asserting that Tehran’s negotiations prioritize Lebanon’s interests. Whether through indirect talks or sustained armed resistance, Fadlallah vowed that all means would be employed to expel the occupation, reb uild the ravaged territories, and ensure the eventual liberation of the land.
The memorial service, which honored the martyred brothers Haidar, Mustafa, and Mahdi Ahmad Ajami, drew a significant gathering of scholars, activists, prominent figures, and local residents, who stood in solidarity with Hezbollah’s message of resilience and steadfastness in the face of multi-faceted aggression.
