Five Lebanese soldiers sustained minor injuries in an explosion caused by a suspicious object while accompanying residents in a southern Lebanese town, the Lebanese Army affirmed on Saturday.
In a statement, the Army Command’s Directorate of Guidance said a specialized unit determined that the blast was caused by a suspicious object, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the remaining circumstances. The army said the incident occurred while a military vehicle was escorting local residents in the town.
The incident came hours after Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal toured southern Lebanon on the occasion of Army Day.
General Haykal: Every Inch of Our Land Is Rightfully Ours
During his visit, Haykal reaffirmed the army’s commitment to defending Lebanon’s entire territory, telling officers and troops, “We believe every inch of our land rightfully is ours, and we reject the continued Israeli occupation of any part of our territory. The sacrifices of our martyrs and wounded will not be in vain, and we will continue to stand by our people and support their return, regardless of the challenges.”
