Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived on Monday in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf to participate in Arbaeen commemorations.

Images circulating on social media showed the top diplomat disembarking at Najaf International Airport upon arrival. Additional photos and footage captured Araghchi touring streets in the holy city, which hosts the revered shrine of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS).

The visit comes as Najaf receives large numbers of pilgrims marking Arbaeen, the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and one of the most significant religious gatherings in the region.

Earlier on Monday, the Iraqi Security Media Office announced that the number of pilgrims arriving in the country to commemorate the Arbaeen pilgrimage has exceeded 4.8 million, with the influx of pilgrims continuing from around the world.
