    Iran-Oman Shipping Deal Would Not Immediately Reopen Strait of Hormuz: Report

      Any agreement between Iran and Oman on future shipping arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz would not lead to the immediate reopening of the strategic waterway, Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported on Wednesday, citing an informed source.

      The source said negotiations on future navigation arrangements are being conducted exclusively between Tehran and Muscat and “have nothing to do with the United States”.

      “The possible agreement between Iran and Oman on the arrangements for vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz has nothing to do with the immediate opening of this strait,” the source added.

      Even if Iran and Oman reach an agreement, the strait will remain closed as long as what Tehran describes as “US violations” continue, according to the report.

      “The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz depends on a change in US behavior and the correction of its violations,” the source said.

      US Interference Delaying Iran-Oman Deal

      The remarks also followed a report in Iranian media that US interference and threats by US President Donald Trump are the main reasons behind the delay in reaching an agreement between Iran and Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

      Speaking to Sepah News, an informed source said the primary reason for the delay in the agreement with Oman on the Strait of Hormuz is US interference and Trump’s threats.

      “As long as US interference and threats of military action against Iran continue, the agreement will remain delayed,” the source said.

      The informed source emphasized that Iran will not conclude any agreement under the shadow of threats.

      Earlier on Wednesday, Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baghaei has said the negotiations are focused on establishing safe shipping routes while safeguarding the sovereign rights and security interests of both Iran and Oman.
