Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi ruled out a resumption of negotiations with the US until Washington ends its violations of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU) and makes amends.
Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Sunday, the top Iranian diplomat said, “Intermediaries are still making efforts to find ways to resume negotiations.”
The foreign minister, however, stressed that Iran sees no possibility of restarting talks until the US stops violating the memorandum of understanding and compensates for its violations.

Regarding Iran’s talks with Oman, the foreign minister said, “The negotiations with Oman are about determining a new maritime route in the Strait of Hormuz. We are at the final stage, and the old routes will be replaced by new routes. Specialists are working on the routes.”
He emphasized that reaching an agreement with Oman on a new maritime route does not mean that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened.
“Of course, this does not mean the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. This agreement may be reached, but the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is subject to a number of conditions,” he stressed.
Iran’s Firm Resistance
Earlier on Sunday, Araghchi stressed that Iran remains committed to resistance and safeguarding its independence despite mounting pressures, saying the country has chosen to stand firm rather than submit to oppression and coercion.
Speaking at an event titled “Muharram and Ashura in the Mirror of Foreign Ministry Documents,” the Iranian FM said the Ashura uprising represents a lasting model of standing against oppression, deviation and corruption and defending human dignity.

He said this year’s Muharram and Ashura ceremonies in Iran have taken on a different character following the US-Israeli aggression on the Islamic Republic which started on February 28.
