Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded to Washington’s latest move — described as “the most crushing sanctions in human history” — by sharing a 14-year-old post from a former US president regarding “the most crippling sanctions in history.”
“14 years ago: ‘Most crippling sanctions in history.’ Failed,” Araghchi wrote on his X account on Friday.
“8 years ago: ‘Maximum pressure.’ Failed. 5 months ago: ‘Unconditional surrender.’ Failed,” he added.
“Today: ‘Most crushing economic operation ever.’ Bound to fail,” he noted.
“We have seen this movie before. Same bull. Different bullies,” Araghchi stressed.
On October 12, 2012, Barack Obama, by posting a message on the social media platform Twitter, had quoted his then-Vice President Joe Biden regarding sanctions against Iran: “These are the most crippling sanctions in the history of sanctions. Period.”
