A senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei has called on the US to learn lessons from its recurrent defeats against Iran and abandon its policy of imposing constant sanctions on the country.
Mohammad Mokhber said in a Monday post on his X account that decades of hostile policies against Iran have left the US with nothing but loss and defeat.
Mokhber suggested the US has suffered badly as a result of its recent war of aggression against Iran, which caused Tehran to restrict energy flow in the Persian Gulf, a move that has sent international oil prices soaring.
His remarks appeared to be a response to recent announcements by US government officials indicating that the country is planning to impose some of its harshest sanctions ever on Iran.
“(Some) 47 years of hostile strategy including sanctions, war, and plots to partition Iran have not only failed to achieve results, but today you are faced with national cohesion and the Islamic Republic’s deterrence in the Strait of Hormuz,” he said in the Farsi-language post.
“This strategic defeat is a definitive warning against the continuation of your miscalculations. Iran’s response will be more decisive than ever.”
Iran has dismissed US efforts to maximize its economic pressure on the country, saying its economy has successfully coped with similar sanctions over the past five decades.
The US plan to increase the sanctions comes after Washington failed militarily to persuade Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway responsible for a fifth of global oil demand and a third of the world’s supply of agricultural fertilizers.
Iranian authorities have indicated that the only way for transit in Hormuz to return to normal levels is for the US to permanently lift its sanctions and blockade on Iran.
