US Senator Chris Van Hollen has called for a full investigation and accountability over a US strike that targeted a wedding in Iran, accusing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth of treating civilian casualties as an “afterthought.”
Sharing a New York Times report on the strike, Van Hollen criticized Hegseth’s approach to military operations, saying he had cut personnel tasked with preventing civilian casualties while boasting that there would be “no stupid rules of engagement.”

Van Hollen’s remarks add to growing US calls for scrutiny over civilian casualties from the US war on Iran.

Iranian Health Ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanpour said Thursday that four people were martyred and at least 50 people were wounded in a US strike on a wedding in Sirik.
