In a post on Telegram, the occupation military said its forces located the suspect in his vehicle. It said he tried to stab the soldiers, prompting an Israeli commander to open fire him.

The incident comes during an unprecedented escalation in settler attacks in the occupied West Bank, often carried out under the protection of Israeli soldiers.

Hamas Hails Operation

For its part, Hamas Palestinian resistance movement hailed the “heroic operation as a legitimate response to the ongoing crimes of the occupation and the extremist settlers”.

Palestinians will “not stand idly by in the face of the aggression, settlement, displacement, and targeting of their land and holy sites”, Hamas said in a statement.

It called for its people across the occupied West Bank and East Al-Quds (Jerusalem) to “escalate the resistance” and confront settlement, annexation, and displacement efforts by the Israeli occupation.
