Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Major General Mohsen Rezaei said Iran will not enter negotiations with the United States until Tehran’s conditions are met, dismissing mixed signals from US President Donald Trump.
“Don’t get distracted by the U.S. president’s mixed signals—from ‘no negotiations’ to ‘we’re ready to talk,’” Rezaei said in a post on X in English language.

Trump’s Shifted Rhetoric
The warning by the top Iranian security official came hours after US President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that “Iran wants to make a deal, quickly and badly,” while saying he would decide “whether or not the USA will choose to engage” and acknowledging that Washington was open to the idea.

Trump’s latest remarks contrasted with his earlier statements. In August, he claimed that “there are no talks or conversations going on, or scheduled, with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” while insisting that the naval blockade remained in place and falsely stating that the Strait of Hormuz was “open and operating.”
On the same day, however, his son-in-law and envoy Jared Kushner said discussions with Iran were “probably more robust than it’s maybe ever been.”
Trump has repeatedly shifted his rhetoric, at times threatening to “keep the oil like Venezuela,” claiming Iran was “calling constantly” to negotiate, and suggesting that the war would end only after the US midterm elections.
