The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has announced that a Togo-flagged oil tanker Trend was struck and brought to a halt after a fire broke out aboard the vessel as it attempted an illegal passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement issued on Thursday night, Rear Admiral Ali Azmaei, commander of the IRGC Navy, said the tanker sought to cross the strategic waterway last night.
“Last night, the offending tanker Trend, flying the flag of Togo, attempted to illegally pass through the Strait of Hormuz at the instigation and deception of the child-killing US military. It was hit and stopped after a fire broke out on it,” the Iranian general said.
“The brave warriors of Islam and the valiant sailors of the IRGC Navy continue to powerfully maintain control of the vital waterway of the Strait of Hormuz and do not allow any aggressor to pass through it,” the statement further read.
The force once again warned against the illegal passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
“The IRGC Navy once again warns that illegal passage through the Strait of Hormuz will have no outcome other than the destruction of the offending vessel,” Rear Admiral Azmaei warned.
UKMTO Reports Incident
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Organization (UKMTO) has reported an incident in the strategic waterway late on Thursday.
In a statement it said it has received a report of a security incident in the Strait of Hormuz 16NM northeast of Khasab, Oman.

“The crew have been reported as safe,” it said, adding it was investigating the incident and urging vessels “to transit with caution.”
