Tehran demands end to hostilities on all fronts, release of frozen funds, and lifting of naval blockade as prerequisites for renewed talks
Iran’s top security official has announced that the Islamic Republic has conveyed seven conditions to the United States for the resumption of negotiations, warning that Washington must accept Tehran’s terms if it wishes to extricate itself from the “quagmire” of its war of aggression.
Major General Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), made the remarks in a post on X on Saturday, as negotiations between Tehran and Washington to permanently end the war remain stalled due to what Iran describes as American “acts of mischief” in the region.
“Iran has conveyed seven conditions to the US government for the start of any negotiations. Tehran’s message is clear and unequivocal: if Washington wants to extricate itself from the predicament it has created and avoid becoming further entangled, it has no choice but to accept Iran’s rights and conditions,” Rezaei wrote.
Conditions Conveyed Through Qatari Mediators
In an exclusive interview with the Qatari-based news channel Al Jazeera published on Saturday, Rezaei disclosed that Tehran had transmitted its conditions to Washington through Qatari mediators and is awaiting a response from US President Donald Trump.
“Our conditions are an end to the war on all fronts, the release of our frozen funds and an end to the naval blockade,” he said. “It is in Washington’s interest to accept these conditions.”
New Strategy to End War ‘As Soon as Possible’
The SNSC chief said Iran is operating under a new strategy aimed at bringing the war—which continues “in practical terms”—to an end “as soon as possible.”
He noted that, based on Iranian military assessments, another US aggression is “very much on the cards,” stressing that Tehran is prepared for a “decisive war.”
Rezaei further stated that Iran’s military planning has shifted since the two US-Israeli-imposed wars, with its focus now directed at US naval assets stretching from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
Background: Two Imposed Wars
The United States and the Israeli regime waged their first war against Iran—lasting 12 days—in June 2025. Their second aggression began on February 28, 2026, and halted in early April after 40 days.
In both conflicts, Iran’s resistance and successful retaliatory operations forced the aggressors to accept a ceasefire, according to Iranian officials.
Iran has also maintained a tight grip on the Strait of Hormuz since the early days of the second imposed war.
US Violations and Iran’s Response
In July, the US conducted waves of deadly air raids on Iran and imposed a naval blockade of the country in violation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Islamic Republic, signed on June 17, to end the war.
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces launched devastating strikes against strategic American targets across West Asia and declared the Strait of Hormuz closed to all traffic.
