Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has met with his Ukrainian counterpart to address a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea, as well as bilateral relations and broader security developments across Europe and West Asia.
During the September 24th meetings, Aaghchi and Andrii Sybiha stressed the importance of diplomacy in managing tensions. Today’s meeting comes after a July 2026 phone conversation between the two sides.
The two top politicians also stressed the need to keep communication channels between the two sides open and emphasized taking the necessary bilateral steps to manage relations. The two sides also agreed to continue their contacts in order to prevent any escalation of tension in their relations.
After he met with Araghchi today, Sybiha wrote on his Twitter page, “Diplomacy is about direct conversation, even in challenging circumstances. Our conversation focused on mutual steps to prevent further aggravation of tensions between our countries.”
