Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed during a meeting at the United Nations that there is no alternative to a diplomatic solution to the Gulf crisis, according to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The two top diplomats discussed a range of regional and international issues, with a particular focus on developments concerning Iran. The ministry said both sides “emphasized the lack of an alternative to a diplomatic settlement of the crisis caused by the illegal actions of the United States and Israel.”
The statement added that Araghchi and Lavrov also addressed bilateral matters and the schedule of upcoming Russian-Iranian contacts at various levels.
In a related development, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei announced last Wednesday a new round of message exchanges between Tehran and Washington, facilitated by Qatari mediation in New York.
Baghaei explained that the exchange lasted approximately two hours, during which Iran’s conditions for reviving the diplomatic track were conveyed to the American side.
