Hezbollah categorically denied on Wednesday any connection to an alleged cell that the Syrian Interior Ministry claimed it had dismantled in the Yarmouk Basin area of Daraa, reiterating that the group has no presence on Syrian soil and no involvement in security or military activities there.
In a statement, Hezbollah’s Media Relations office reaffirmed “unwavering commitment to Syria’s security, stability and the safety of its people.”
It urged Syrian authorities to “investigate attempts to implicate Hezbollah” in order to fuel tensions between Lebanon and Syria.
Hezbollah called on the Syrian authorities to examine the motives behind the allegations, pointing to Israeli enemy’s ongoing aggression against Syria and Lebanon and efforts to destabilize the region.
“Hezbollah urges the Syrian authorities to investigate the motives behind these claims and the parties responsible, and to identify the true beneficiary of escalating tensions between the two countries: The Israeli enemy, which is intensifying its aggression against Syria and Lebanon and seeking to destabilize the region.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Syrian authorities claimed dismantling a three-member cell allegedly linked to Hezbollah in the southern Daraa province.
The Interior Ministry said the “General Intelligence Directorate, in coordination with internal security forces, arrested the suspects in the Yarmouk Basin in western Daraa.”
Hezbollah assures it has no presence of its members on Syrian soil, with the Lebanese resistance group repeatedly denying claims by the new authorities in Damascus about alleged involvement by Hezbollah operators in Syria.
