Hezbollah Hails US Military Withdrawal from Iraq as Historic Victory

Hezbollah Statements

Hezbollah has congratulated Iraq’s religious authorities, government, and people on what it described as a “great historic achievement” and a “blessed victory” following the withdrawal of US forces from Iraqi territory.

In a statement, Hezbollah said the US withdrawal marked the failure of Washington’s ambitions and objectives in Iraq, stressing that they had been thwarted by the determination and will of the Iraqi people.

The statement said the withdrawal came more than two decades after the US-led invasion and occupation of Iraq, accompanied by terrorism, domination, oppression, and persecution against the Iraqi people, blaming the United States of contributing to internal divisions and exploiting Iraq’s resources, saying the period had left behind widespread suffering, destruction, and tragedy.

Hezbollah attributed what it described as the achievement to the steadfastness of the Iraqi people and their resistance to the occupation. It praised what it called the “courageous resistance” and the Iraqi people’s determination to confront the U.S. presence and expel foreign forces from their territory.

The statement also highlighted the human cost of the conflict, referring to the sacrifices made by Iraqis, including thousands of people killed and wounded during years of war and confrontation.

Hezbollah indicated that the the Iraqi case demonstrated that powerful occupying forces could not ultimately subjugate peoples determined to defend their freedom and sovereignty. The statement also argued that military power and coercion could not permanently break the will of peoples seeking independence.

Hezbollah further said that the withdrawal represented a broader lesson about the ability of popular resistance and national unity to challenge foreign military intervention, regardless of the strength of the intervening power.

Concluding its statement, Hezbollah congratulated Iraq on what it called a historic development and expressed its wishes for the country’s continued “dignity, prosperity, and progress,” as well as peace and success for its people, leaders, and religious authorities.

The statement also paid tribute to Iraqi resistance fighters, those killed and wounded during the conflict, and others whose sacrifices, according to Hezbollah, helped pave the way for what it described as “the beginning of the end” of the US military presence in the region.
