Iran’s Araghchi: “No Military Solution, Only Diplomatic Dignity”

Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi during an address to foreign ambassadors based in Tehran (Sunday October 4, 2026).

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Sunday that there is no military solution to the conflict with the US, adding that the war cannot be resolved through further sanctions, in an apparent reference to Washington’s sanctions on Tehran.

“There is no military solution and no solution based on more sanctions,” Araghchi said in an address to foreign ambassadors based in Tehran, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.

“Only a solution grounded in negotiations, justice, and diplomatic dignity can address the situation and provide a final resolution to end this war and the unlawful aggression that has been launched against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Araghchi said.

If Washington resorts to military action, Tehran is ready to take all necessary measures to “defend ourselves with even more force,” he warned.

The top Iranian diplomat said Iran’s delegation had a strong and effective presence at the UN General Assembly in New York, where it held numerous meetings and interviews and presented a seven-day proposal for resolving existing disputes.

He said that under the proposal, the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened within seven days if the plan is accepted, adding that Iran’s initiative influenced the political atmosphere in New York and demonstrated Tehran’s commitment to diplomacy and finding a solution, just as it remains committed to defending itself.

Araghchi warned that Iran’s response will be stronger than before if its adversaries once again choose the path of military confrontation.

“If they seek diplomacy, we remain ready to reach an honorable solution to end the war,” he said.

The Iranian FM said Iran has clearly stated its positions in New York and that efforts to isolate the Islamic Republic have failed.
