Iran’s Foreign Ministry has summoned Norway’s ambassador in Tehran to lodge an official protest over Scandinavian country’s continued inaction concerning the unauthorized activities of Starlink in Iranian territory.
Mohammad Hassannejad Pirkouhi, director general for international peace and security at the Foreign Ministry, summoned Paal Andre Bjørnestad on Sunday morning to formally convey Iran’s apprehension regarding Starlink.
During the meeting, Hassannejad explained to the envoy how the United States and the Israeli regime are exploiting the satellite internet systems to advance their interventionist and divisive agenda in Iran.
While criticizing Norway’s failure to fulfill its obligations as one of the countries responsible for registering the Starlink network with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Iranian diplomat emphasized that, based on recent decisions by the ITU’s Radio Regulations Board, the Norwegian government is required to take necessary steps to prevent unauthorized Starlink transmissions within Iran.
Norway and the United States are both responsible for Starlink’s ITU registration, but Norway has taken no effective action, despite repeated follow-ups by Iran, which has been advocating at the ITU for Starlink service to the country to be stopped.
Hassannejad handed a formal note of protest to the Norwegian envoy, calling for the immediate communication of Iran’s demand—that the Norwegian government take effective and urgent action to halt Starlink activities that violate the country’s sovereignty and security.
