Former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt warned that the region risks descending into complete ruin, arguing that a return to the Islamabad agreements and their further development is the only way to avert such an outcome.
In a post, Jumblatt said: “Only a return to the Islamabad agreements, coupled with their further development, can spare the region complete devastation.”

He further warned that only major oil and arms companies would benefit from the region’s destruction.
In this context, Jumblatt stressed that “any reliance on external support is an illusion and a fantasy.”
Jumblatt was referring to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States, which has been violated by Washington, prompting Iranian retaliation against US sites across the Middle East and further tensions in teh Strait of Hormuz.
