Behind Aoun-Berri Meeting: Al-Manar Reports Key Details

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun received Speaker Nabih Berri at Baabda presidential palace on Friday with sources told Al-Manar that the two top officials tackled latest Israeli attacks on south Lebanon.

Upon leaving the presidential palace, Speaker Berri was quoted by Lebanese National News Agency as saying: “Meetings with His Excellency the President are always excellent.”

Our correspondent to Baabda Palace Mona Tahini reported that the meeting lasted for half an hour, and that it tackled latest developments.

The two top officials discussed the Israeli attacks and the return of the displaced citizens to their homes, according to our correspondent.

Briefing on the broader context of the meeting, Al-Manar’s Tahini said Speaker Berri’s visit merits attention as it comes following wide-scale Israeli attacks that saw the extensive destruction of dozens of residential homes in south Lebanon.

“The visit comes two days after remarks made by President Aoun during a meeting with members of the diplomatic corps and the heads of international missions. It also comes amid reports on freezing the meeting of the Mechanism committee overseeing the 2024 ceasefire between Lebanon and the Zionist entity,” our correspondent said.

The Israeli enemy carried out on Wednesday a series of air strikes targeting residential areas in several towns across south Lebanon including Jarjou’, Qannarit, Al-Kharayeb, Ansar and Kfour.

The aggression resulted in at least nineteen injuries and significant damage to residential buildings and citizens’ properties.

The Israeli enemy continues to bomb Lebanon, mainly the country’s south, almost daily and maintains occupation over five posts along the southern border, in violation of a ceasefire deal reached following the 2024 Israeli war.

At least 437 people have been martyred by Israeli attacks since November 2024, according to toll released by Lebanon’s Health Ministry and updated by Al-Manar.

Enemy forces also stage infiltrations into Lebanese territory on daily bases, blowing up houses in the border towns.
