Iran’s IRGC Warns of New Targets: Undersea Internet Cables in Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that undersea internet cables passing through the Strait of Hormuz could become targets if the United States launches a new war against the Islamic Republic.

In remarks quoted by Iranian media late Monday, IRGC Spokesman Brigadier General Hossein Mohebb warned that any renewed conflict would bring a harsher response, new weapons and previously unidentified targets.

“We do not rule out the possibility of war, and this time our response will be much harsher. This time, America will face serious trouble, and the world will face a severe energy crisis,” Brig. Gen. Mohebbi stated.

“Seven major internet cables run beneath the Strait of Hormuz,” the IRGC spokesman said.

“We just want them to know that new targets will be unveiled. New weapons will be unveiled,” he warned.

Brig. Gen. Mohebbi made the remarks during a ceremony at Tehran’s Sacred Defense Museum, the Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported.

He also vowed to drive “the remnants of US power out of the region.”

Earlier this month, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei told Iranian state broadcaster Press TV that Tehran could target undersea internet cables, data centers and artificial intelligence facilities linked to the US if another war broke out.

“We have not yet included these assets among our targets,” Rezaei said, warning that such infrastructure could be destroyed in a renewed conflict.
