The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that its air defenses intercepted and destroyed a US MQ-9 drone over the eastern Strait of Hormuz, marking the 55th such drone downed, according to an IRGC statement.
In a statement issued by the IRGC’s public relations office, the corps said the advanced US drone was engaged by a new, sophisticated air defense system operated by the IRGC Aerospace Force as part of the country’s integrated air defense network. The statement identified the downed aircraft as the 55th MQ-9 of its type destroyed by Iranian forces.
