Haaretz: Netanyahu’s “Hysterical” Address Exposes Political Collapse

A screenshot of a video shared by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party shows him speaking in a pre-recorded video statement released on November 7, 2026.

Israeli newspaper Haaretz described an address by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “hysterical,” adding that it “exposed a complete collapse of composure and a political leader increasingly gripped by the prospect of losing power.”

In an article on Sunday, Haaretz said Netanyahu’s Saturday recorded address “was far beyond hysterical; it was a complete collapse and total disintegration broadcast almost live.”

The Israeli paper argued that Netanyahu invokes national unity only when his political survival is at stake, saying that “he only brandishes the unity card when the sword is at his throat,” as the prospect of losing power appears more imminent than ever.

Haaretz added that even when Netanyahu attempts to present himself as an advocate of unity, he cannot abandon what it described as his habitual lying and distortion of history, including events from the recent past.

It also pointed to what it characterized as Netanyahu’s loss of composure in his comparison between Israeli situation and unrest in European cities.

“The fires and flames in the streets of Paris and Brussels will pale in comparison to the fires we will see in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa. Israel simply will not survive,” Netanyahu said in the recorded statement, as quoted by Haaretz.

The newspaper said the remarks reflected Netanyahu’s psychological state, further underscoring its criticism of his conduct and political messaging.

Israeli Presdient Isaac Herzog announced Saturday evening that he would task Yashar party chairman Gadi Eisenkot with forming next Israeli government.

During Herzog’s consultations with party delegations last Wednesday and Thursday, Eisenkot received 67 recommendations for the premiership — a majority in the 120-member parliament — while Netanyahu got 46.
