Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will pay an official visit to Turkey as part of Tehran’s ongoing efforts to strengthen relations with neighboring countries.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei said Araghchi is scheduled to travel to Turkey on Friday, underscoring Iran’s commitment to expanding ties with its neighbors based on a policy of good-neighborliness and shared interests.
“Dr. Araghchi, the foreign minister, will conduct an official visit to Turkey on Friday,” Baqaei wrote on X. “The Islamic Republic of Iran remains firmly committed to continuously enhancing relations with neighboring states, grounded in mutual interests and good-neighborly relations.”

The visit comes as a Turkish Foreign Ministry source had earlier confirmed that Araghchi would arrive in Turkey on Friday, at a time of escalating US threats of military action against Iran.
According to the source, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will reiterate Ankara’s rejection of any military intervention against Iran, warning of its serious consequences for regional security and international stability. He will also reaffirm Turkey’s readiness to contribute to de-escalation through dialogue and diplomacy.
In the same context, a Turkish official told Agence France-Presse that Ankara is considering additional measures to bolster security along its border with Iran. These measures may include enhanced electronic surveillance systems and the deployment of additional forces along the more than 500-kilometer border, noting that the wall Turkey has built along roughly 380 kilometers of the frontier is “insufficient.”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan described the situation facing Iran as “a new test,” stressing that Ankara will oppose any move that could plunge the region into chaos.
Fidan has previously urged Washington to pursue a negotiation track with Tehran over the nuclear issue, cautioning that igniting another war in the region would be “a grave mistake.”
A Turkish Foreign Ministry source also emphasized that Ankara is closely monitoring developments in Iran due to their direct implications for Turkey’s national security and the stability of its regional environment.
These diplomatic moves coincide with the US Central Command’s announcement of the deployment of a major naval strike force to the Middle East, led by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, following claims by US President Donald Trump that any forthcoming attack would be “far worse,” alongside reports of a US fleet moving toward Iran.
