Lebanese Parliament Approves 2026 State Budget

After three days of daunting debates, the Lebanese parliament approved on Thursday the state budget law for the year 2026.

Out of 128 members of parliament, 59 lawmakers voted for the law, 34 opposed, and 11 abstained from voting.

The debate included political scuffles and heated economic discussions, especially regarding the salaries of the public sector employees.

In this regard, the veterans and various segments of the public servicemen demonstrated off the parliament headquarters in Beirut and cut off roads in many Lebanese cities and towns.

After a compromise mediated by Speaker Nabih Berri, a delegation representing the veterans, met with PM Nawaf Salam and Minister of Finance Yasin Jaber. The meeting led to an agreement on a salary hike before the end of February.
