Iranian, Turkish Presidents Hold Telephone Discussion on Regional Developments

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan engaged in a telephone conversation on Friday to address ongoing regional developments, with particular emphasis on the escalation of military tensions by the US.

The two presidents reviewed bilateral relations between their countries, as well as the heightened military tensions currently affecting the region.

President Erdoğan underscored Turkey’s preparedness to serve as a facilitator in dialogue between Iran and the United States, with the aim of reducing tensions and resolving outstanding issues.

“Today I will meet with the Iranian Foreign Minister who is currently in Turkey,” Erdoğan stated.

During the call, the presidents of Iran and Turkey exchanged views on current regional issues and stressed the necessity of adopting diplomatic, interaction-based, and dialogue-oriented solutions to resolve matters, while calling for avoidance of any provocative, tension-escalating, or warmongering actions in the region.

President Pezeshkian, emphasizing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s principled policy of pursuing “honorable diplomacy” within the framework of international laws and regulations, reiterated that Iran’s approach is based on dialogue, mutual respect, rejection of threats and force, and win-win logic.

He stated that the formation of effective diplomatic and dialogue-driven processes requires the establishment of mutual trust, adding that the prerequisite and prelude to the success of any diplomatic initiative is the demonstration of good faith by relevant parties and the abandonment of warmongering and threatening actions and maneuvers in the region.

The two presidents also highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, the constructive role of regional countries in preserving lasting stability and security, and the necessity of strengthening dialogue mechanisms to reduce tensions and prevent the escalation of crises.

Iranian Foreign Minister Sayyed Abbas Araghchi, currently visiting Turkey, also emphasized the need for even closer consultations and coordination of positions between Iran and Turkey to address serious regional challenges posed by the United States and others, while exchanging views on ways to confront and overcome threats.
