President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Turkiye is doing its utmost to prevent US-Iran tensions from dragging the region into new conflict and chaos, and he has urged the US and Iranian leaders to hold talks .
Speaking to reporters on a return flight from Egypt, Erdogan praised diplomatic efforts by the countries and said leader-level talks would be helpful after lower-level negotiations.
It is worth noting that talks between Iran and the United States will take place in Oman on Friday.
Mediators from Qatar, Turkiye and Egypt have presented Iran and the US with a framework of key principles to be discussed in the talks, two sources have told Al Jazeera.
