Hezbollah Bloc Rejects Government Tax Hike, Warns against Vote Delay

Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc held its periodic session to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon and the region, issuing a statement clarifies the attitudes towards the various files and issues.

Hezbollah bloc affirmed its rejection of the new tax hike in Lebanon, calling on the government to find other sources to increase its revenues.

The bloc’s statement affirmed the following:

First: The bloc emphasizes its complete rejection of the tax decisions recently issued by the government, whether regarding the increase in VAT tariffs or the rise in gasoline prices, as this will have massive negative effects on citizens’ living conditions and increase their burdens and pressures. The bloc believes these random and improvised increases are not based on any correct economic plan or vision. Therefore, the bloc naturally finds itself in a position to challenge these unfair decisions. It warns the government that there are other diverse sources that can increase its revenues, including maritime properties, sand and gravel quarries, combating tax and customs evasion, and more.

Second: The bloc strongly condemns the Israeli enemy’s continuation of assassination crimes, targeting citizens, civilians, and their properties and livelihoods in the south and various areas of Lebanon. It emphasizes the need to stand firm against this heinous aggression, which is covered by the US and internationally. The bloc calls on the authorities to reject the logic of Zionist subjugation and not succumb to increasing pressures aimed at pushing Lebanon to fully surrender to the enemy’s will. It affirms that the steadfastness, unity, and resilience of the Lebanese position will preserve the country and its strength.

Third: The government’s insistence on prioritizing the issue of weapons confiscation, while the Zionist enemy occupies Lebanese lands and daily violates national sovereignty, is putting the cart before the horse, confusing the national liberation path, and distracting citizens from the priority of forcing the enemy to stop its aggression and end its occupation. The government should adhere to the ceasefire agreement of 27/11/2024, which does not obligate Lebanon to anything if the enemy does not stop its hostile actions and withdraw from occupied points and areas in Lebanon. The government should not continue to slide towards concessions at the expense of national interests or accept blackmail from anyone who justifies the enemy’s continued aggression against Lebanon or fails to condemn its violations.

Fourth: Holding elections on the legally scheduled date is an internal Lebanese matter that depends on maintaining general stability in the country. The credibility of those in power and authority will be determined by their commitment to this. The Loyalty to Resistance bloc views with skepticism the recent political whispers suggesting some intend to postpone parliamentary elections for special political and self-serving calculations unrelated to law or constitution. The bloc affirms its commitment to holding parliamentary elections on the scheduled date according to the law, without delay or postponement.

Fifth: The bloc strongly condemns the escalating Zionist attacks in Gaza and the increased targeting of Palestinians for assassination there and in the West Bank, which has reached a tragic situation due to the Zionist escalation of killing, siege, arrest, and settlement expansion, annexing more of their lands to the enemy entity. The bloc denounces the international silence, which amounts to complicity, towards what the usurping Zionist entity is doing to liquidate the Palestinian issue.

Sixth and finally: The bloc expresses its solidarity with Cuba, government and people, against the unjust American blockade that attempts to strangle the Cuban people’s sources of life and tries to overthrow the political system in this country to subjugate and humble it, paving the way for its annexation to the American system and confiscating the Cuban people’s right to choose their system and determine their fate.
