MP Ezzeddine: Government Tax Policy Will Fail to Address Economic Crisis in Lebanon

Member of Loyalty to Resistance bloc, Hasan Ezzeddine, stressed that the parliamentary elections would be held as scheduled, lashing out at the government’s recent tax hike.

Ezzeddine’s remarks came during Hezbollah memorial service for the martyred mujahid Muhammad Tahsin Hussein Qashqash in the town of Ain Baal and in presence of the member of the same bloc as well MP Hussein Jishi, religious scholars, and community leaders, in recognition of the martyr’s sacrifices in defending Lebanon and preserving the dignity of its people.

MP Ezzeddine stated that the government’s decision to raise fuel prices and increase the value-added tax was “completely and utterly unacceptable,” emphasizing that these hasty decisions “will not address the economic situation, but will only increase the burden on the middle and lower classes.” He stressed that the government is capable of collecting funds from other sources, such as tax evasion, maritime properties, and quarries.

MP Ezzeddine also addressed the upcoming elections, affirming that they would be held on schedule and emphasizing the steadfastness of the Hezbollah-Amal alliance in the face of all challenges and threats. He stated, “Our position stems from our confidence in our people and our community, who would express their stance at the ballot box, confirming their choice to support the resistance.”

Regarding the Iranian negotiations with the United States, MP Ezzeddine stressed that Iran is negotiating “from a position of strength and field capability,” and that the Islamic Republic will not relinquish its national and regional rights and interests.
