Lebanese Education Minister Rima Karami arrives at Jdeidet Marjayoun in southern Lebanon (February 24, 2026).

Lebanese Education Minister Rima Karami toured on Tuesday schools in southern Lebanese border towns, as part of follow-up efforts to Prime Minister Nawaf Salam ’s recent visit to the region.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that Karami began her visit at Marjayoun Official School.

The agency added that the minister was set to distribute school supplies to students funded by the European Union through UNICEF.

“We secured $570,000 in funding for 49 schools in frontline and southern villages to protect children’s right to education,” Karami said in Marjayoun.

“We are following up with the Council for Development and Reconstruction to launch rehabilitation and restoration work on more than 300 schools through an initiative funded by the World Bank, she added, according to local media.

Accompanied by UNICEF Representative Marco Luigi Corsi and a representative of the European Union, Karami also inspected Jdeidet Marjayoun Official School and held a meeting with school administrators and principals from the area to discuss current conditions and pressing needs, according to NNA.

Earlier this month, PM Salam toured southern Lebanon, vowing imminent infrastructure rehabilitation of the region that have been witnessing Israeli brutality since 2023.
