Israeli occupation forces opened fire on Lebanese Army personnel and issued aerial threats on Tuesday as troops were establishing a new observation post in the Marjayoun district of southern Lebanon, in what officials described as a dangerous escalation along the southern border.
According to a statement released by the Lebanese Army, soldiers came under fire from the Israeli enemy’s side while setting up a monitoring position near the southern frontier in the Sarda–Marjayoun area. Simultaneously, an Israeli drone flew at low altitude over the site, broadcasting threats in an apparent attempt to force the troops to withdraw.
The army said the gunfire targeted the vicinity of the newly established position, coinciding with the provocative drone activity overhead.
In response, the Lebanese Army Command issued orders to reinforce the post, maintain its presence, and return fire toward the sources of the attack.
Military officials added that the incident is being followed up in coordination with the supervisory committee overseeing the cessation of hostilities agreement, as well as with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), underscoring the seriousness of the breach and its implications for stability along the border.

Lebanese Army Reinforces Positions
Amid the surge in Israeli incursions and the continued demolition of homes in border villages, the Lebanese Army is moving to consolidate its presence in the south. Military sources indicated that five new positions are being established in the Sarda area, on the outskirts of Al-Wazzani and Wadi Al-Asafir, south of the city of Khiyam.
The deployments are part of an operational plan implemented by the Lebanese Army following the sharp rise in Israeli ground violations and destructive operations along the frontier, underscoring mounting tensions despite the declared ceasefire.
Gunfire Targets Civilians and Border Areas
In a separate incident, gunfire originating from Israeli occupation forces near the occupied Hamamis site targeted the vicinity of a shepherd on the outskirts of Al-Wazzani, raising fresh concerns for civilian safety in the border region.
Al-Manar’s correspondent also reported that the areas of Wadi Al-Asafir, the Khiyam plain, and Sarda were subjected to bursts of machine-gun fire launched from the newly established Israeli military position inside Lebanese territory on Hamamis Hill.
Further gunfire was directed at the surroundings of a newly established Lebanese Army deployment point in the Sarda area, with shots reportedly fired from the same Israeli position at Hamamis.
