Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi updated his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdul Ati on the latest developments of the nuclear talks with the United States, underlining commitment to the diplomatic means to resolve the causes.
Araghchi affirmed that the US negotiator must set realistic goals and avoid exaggeration in order to guarantee the success of the talks.
Araghchi had said the Iranian and US delegations had made “good progress” in the third round of indirect negotiations held in the Swiss city of Geneva.
Speaking to reporters after the conclusion of the talks on Thursday evening, Araghchi said this round of negotiations was “the most serious and longest” and that the seriousness between the parties was more evident (today) than in the past.
He also hailed the presence of Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, saying it was good in terms of technical discussions.
Stating that the two sides reached an understanding in some areas, whereas, differences still remain on some others, the top diplomat said the technical teams will begin talks on Monday.
Pointing out that Thursday’s talks entered seriously into the elements of an agreement, both in the nuclear and sanctions removal areas, Araghchi said a new round will be held next week after consultations the respective capitals.
Araghchi also stated that the Iranian team had very clearly stated about its expectations in the area of lifting sanctions.
Earlier, Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, who has been playing an intermediary role in the talks, wrote on his X media platform that after a “significant progress” in third round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States, a technical-level negotiation will be held in Vienna next week.
