Hezbollah: Government Incapable of Confronting Israeli Aggression Must Distance Lebanon from Additional Problems

Hezbollah's senior lawmaker MP Mohammad Raad talking to reporters following the meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri (February 20, 2026).

Commenting on the statement delivered by Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam following the emergency cabinet session at Baabda Palace, the Head of the Loyalty to Resistance Bloc, MP Mohammad Raad, highlighted the government inability throughout more than one year to confront the Israeli aggression.

MP Raad affirmed, consequently, that the government has not right to take any measures against the citizens who reject the occupation.

What follows is the text of MP Raad statement:

We understand the Lebanese government’s inability to confront the brutal Zionist enemy that violates national sovereignty, occupies land, and poses a continuous threat to the country’s security and stability. We also understand its prerogative to decide on matters of war and peace, as well as its inability to implement and impose such decisions on an enemy that breaches national calm and persists in its aggressive war against Lebanon and its people.

However, in light of this evident incapacity and shortcoming, we see no justification for President Salam and his government to take bold and confrontational measures against Lebanese citizens who reject occupation, nor to accuse them of breaching the calm that the enemy itself has denied and refused to uphold for more than a year and four months. The enemy has imposed upon the Lebanese — government and people alike — a daily state of war, while the government has been unable to halt its ongoing aggressions or even to leverage what it claims are Lebanon’s international friendships to compel the enemy to stop its war against our country.

The Lebanese were awaiting a decision to prohibit aggression, yet instead they were met with a decision to prohibit the rejection of aggression.

Hezbollah’s response to the Zionist escalation against the free and honorable people and their allies in Lebanon and the region is nothing more than a signal rejecting the path of submission and the deception of the Lebanese people into believing that reconciliation with the enemy and submission to its conditions is the only available path to the imagined Lebanese security and peace.

The Lebanese government, which is unable to impose calm on the enemy and likewise unable to engage in resistance against the aggression, must distance the country from creating additional problems that would further inflame the state of tension and unrest — a situation that we must all work to avoid.
