Massive demonstrations erupted in Yemen on Friday, with a huge march in Saada Governorate spearheading a nationwide call for mobilization in support of the Holy Quran and Palestinian.
The march, held under the slogan “Mobilization and Enlistment in Support of the Quran and Palestine,” saw widespread participation. Organizers have issued a call for an unprecedented two million people to join subsequent demonstrations across all Yemeni governorates.
The national organizing committee urged the Yemeni people to turn out in massive numbers in the capital, Sana’a, and other regions. This comes in direct response to the call from Ansar Allah leader, Sayyid Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, for public marches. The demonstrations are a show of strength against what participants describe as ongoing insults and attacks targeting the nation’s sacred sites and its people.
Context of Condemnation
In a recent statement,Sayyid al-Houthi vehemently condemned an act of desecration against the Holy Quran, citing the actions of American Republican Senate candidate Jack Lang, who was reported to have placed a copy of the Islamic holy book in a pig’s mouth days earlier.
Al-Houthi labeled this a “heinous crime against the holiest of religious sanctities,” framing it within the broader context of what he termed the “ongoing Jewish-Zionist war.” He asserted that this war involves direct participation by the United States, Britain, Israel, and their allies in both the East and West.
