Iran: ‘We Decide Who Our Leader Is’ and Vows No Shortage After Attacks

Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani affirmed on Tuesday that the Iranian people alone determine their leadership and policies, while reassuring the public that there are no shortages of fuel or essential goods despite recent Israeli-American attacks.

Speaking at her weekly press conference from Gandhi Hospital in Tehran—a facility previously targeted in an Israeli-American attack—Mohajerani declared that “Iran and the Iranian people decide who their leader is, what his policies are, and how their interests are protected.”

Strategic Resources

Regarding Iran’s maritime assets, Mohajerani emphasized that “the Strait of Hormuz is a strategic asset and capability for Iran, and it is perfectly natural to utilize these resources and capabilities to the fullest extent possible.”

Resilience Amid Aggression

The spokeswoman addressed the impact of recent strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure, noting the swift recovery. “After the attacks targeting refineries and oil depots, we were able to organize and secure fuel supplies within just one day,” she stated.

Mohajerani confirmed there are currently “no problems in securing basic goods in Iran,” and emphasized that “there is no shortage of basic goods or medicine in the country.”

Reconstruction and Economic Measures

Addressing damage from the attacks, Mohajerani acknowledged that “some facilities were damaged and need rebuilding; these matters are certainly among the government’s priorities and plans.”

On economic reforms, she announced that “the electronic ration card will be deposited regularly and periodically,” adding that “despite attempts to suggest that there is a shortage, we have not witnessed any deficit, thank God, and efforts are continuing to manage the market properly.”
