“On the occasion of the funeral ceremony for the fallen warriors of the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran:
Their memory will forever live in the hearts of the Iranian nation. These sacrifices will serve to further entrench the position of the Islamic Republic’s Army within the structure of the armed forces for years to come. I pray to Almighty God to grant these beloved martyrs the highest ranks in the hereafter.”
The destroyer IRIS Dena was torpedoed and sank by a US submarine off the southern coast of Sri Lanka, killing 84 sailors.
