Hezbollah mourned on Thursday the Islamic scholar and resistance figure Sheikh Reda Mahdi, extending condolences to the Islamic nation and to religious seminaries and their scholars.
In a statement, the group said Sheikh Mahdi passed away peacefully after a long life devoted to learning and struggle. It described him as a prominent cleric who combined Islamic jurisprudence with resistance, remaining present in the fields of resistance from the very first shot, speaking the truth in the face of the Israeli occupation, firmly supporting the path of resistance, and championing the causes of the Muslim nation and the oppressed—from Palestine to Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen—until his final moments.
“The late scholar studied under leading religious authorities, completing advanced seminary studies (Bahth Al-Kharij) in Najaf under Grand Ayatollah Abu Al-Qasim Al-Khoei and Grand Ayatollah Ahmad Al-Mustanbit, and was among the students of the martyred Sayyed Muhammad Baqir Sadr,” the statement highlighted.
The group underscored that the late Sheikh Mahdi played a foundational role in the Assembly of Scholars of Jabal Amel and the Gathering of Muslim Scholars, becoming—through his wide-ranging knowledge, thought, and jurisprudence—a school in his own right and a mentor to generations of scholars and resistance fighters.
Concluding, Hezbollah extended its condolences to the Imam of the Age (may God hasten his reappearance), to the senior religious authorities—foremost among them Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei—to the religious seminaries, and to Sheikh Mahdi’s family, admirers, and students, praying that God grant him abundant mercy and the highest ranks.
