Hezbollah MP: Diplomacy without Power Futile

Member of Hezbollah’s Loyalty to Resistance bloc at the Lebanese Parliament MP Ali Fayyad stressed that relying on diplomacy without preserving elements of strength is futile.

In a memorial service in the southern city of Nabatieh, MP Fayyad said: “Any diplomatic or political endeavor to obtain national rights remains futile if it is not based on elements of strength, steadfastness, and resilience.”

“The State needs a minimum level of balance that cannot be compromised, because it forms the basis for protecting sovereignty and achieving national interests,” he added in remarks carried by Al-Manar.

The Hezbollah lawmaker underlined the necessity of the resistance in order to protect rights and sovereignty.

“The enemy’s criminal practices, which have violated international laws in Lebanon and across the region, reaffirm the legitimacy of the resistance and deepen the need for it, as it exercises its natural right to self-defense and the protection of rights in the absence of any alternative guarantees.

MP Fayyad pointed out that the alternatives being proposed “only mean leaving Lebanon exposed to submission and surrender, awaiting a catastrophic fate.”

He said the negotiations taking place in Naqoura have now gone beyond the framework of the Mechanism Committee tasked with overseeing the ceasefire and the Israeli withdrawal in accordance with international resolution 1701.

“Calls to move to the so-called second phase in the area north of the Litani River come at a time when the enemy still occupies border areas south of the river, obstructs the deployment of the Lebanese army, and continues its attacks and assassinations. This effectively means demanding that Lebanon unilaterally comply with Israeli conditions that go beyond Resolution 1701.”

MP Fayyad described the situation as dangerous as it “does not provide any basis for balance with the enemy or the achievement of Lebanese goals, in addition to the internal complications and sensitivities it raises that threaten the unity of the Lebanese.”
