The Israeli newspaper Maariv acknowledged that “Israel’s situation is worse than it was before the ‘roar of Assad’ on all fronts.”
The newspaper stated: “We must start from the end. From now on, Israel is in a less favorable position than it should be. It is in a worse position regarding Lebanon and Gaza than it was on February 27th of this year.”
It emphasized that the contradictory statements of US President Donald Trump are confusing army officers. “This is a very complicated situation,” the newspaper said. “You don’t know where we are going or what the direction is.”
It quoted an Israeli army officer as saying: “You read a statement from him saying he is heading toward an offensive strategy, and two minutes later you hear him in an interview saying the exact opposite. This is a very complicated situation. You don’t know where you are going or what the direction is.”
The newspaper pointed out that restrictions are being imposed on the Israeli army by the political echelon. “The Israeli government is not currently making decisions regarding the policy of firing in Lebanon; that is the White House in Washington.”
Maariv noted that recent days have witnessed a dramatic shift in the security situation across three arenas: Iran, Lebanon, and Yemen.
It added: “The security and military establishment observes that Hamas in Gaza is escalating its activity against the Israeli army along the ‘yellow line,’ while simultaneously working rapidly to regain control of the territory.”
The newspaper pointed out that the assessment in Israel is that the question is not whether fighting will resume, but when and on what scale.
It concluded sarcastically: “The question is how far Trump, who hasn’t yet decided what he truly wants, will allow it.”
