Addressing a major ceremony on Tuesday evening at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Grand Mosque to mark the sixth anniversary of the martyrdom of General Haj Qassem Soleimani, and before a large gathering representing all segments of society, Pezeshkian paid tribute to General Soleimani’s legacy, emphasizing that the Iranian people remain firmly committed to upholding his principles, character, and mission.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed the country’s unwavering commitment to resistance, declaring that Iran will not yield to arrogant powers and will continue along the path embodied by the late commander.
Pezeshkian extended his wishes for the Supreme Leader’s long life and dignity, describing General Soleimani as an unparalleled role model in ethics, integrity, courage, the pursuit of justice, and practical defense of the oppressed. “What brings us together today is the path we must follow—the path of the martyrs, foremost among them Martyr Soleimani,” he said.

A Model of Faith and Action
Referring to the coincidence of the anniversary with the birth of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), Pezeshkian said Soleimani’s conduct clearly reflected the Imam’s character and resolve. He emphasized that Soleimani rejected worldly temptations, stood firmly against oppression, and consistently supported the oppressed—not in words, but through action.
He added that Soleimani did not belong to any faction, party, or group, but followed the path of Imam Ali and showed complete obedience to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution. Without conditions or demands, he was present wherever duty called—inside Iran or in defense of oppressed Muslim nations.
Global Symbol of Resistance
Highlighting Soleimani’s international stature, Pezeshkian said the martyred general had become a global symbol of resistance and defense of humanity, not only in Iran but worldwide. He noted that memorial ceremonies were even held for him in the United States following his assassination.
Quoting Imam Ali (peace be upon him) from Nahj Al-Balagha, Pezeshkian warned of schemes by dominant powers to mislead independent societies. He said the United States and the Zionist entity now resort to state terrorism under the guise of democracy and freedom, assassinating elites, scientists, commanders, and leaders seeking liberation, while being the principal criminals on the global stage.
“The martyrdom of General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, and our scientists and commanders is irrefutable proof of these crimes,” he said, stressing that the Iranian people will continue this path with full determination.
Governance, Reform, and Accountability
Turning to domestic governance, Pezeshkian said no member of his administration was appointed based on factional affiliation or personal connections. “All appointments were made on the basis of expertise, collective judgment, and merit,” he stated.
He also underlined the government’s firm resolve to combat smuggling, bribery, and corruption, acknowledging that dismantling these networks is difficult and threatens entrenched interests.
On economic reform, Pezeshkian announced a restructuring of the subsidy system, emphasizing that subsidies will not be reduced. Instead, they will be transferred directly to citizens’ accounts from start to finish. While acknowledging resistance from those benefiting from intermediaries, he said the government will implement the decision decisively.
