Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf mocked the idea of a US naval blockade on Iran, arguing that the Islamic Republic’s extensive borders make such a move unrealistic.
In a post on X, Ghalibaf illustrated his point with a hypothetical comparison, suggesting that even if two massive walls were constructed across the United States—one stretching from New York City to the West Coast and another from Los Angeles to the East Coast—their combined length would reach about 7,755 kilometers, still falling roughly 1,000 kilometers short of Iran’s total borders.
“Good luck blockading a country with those borders,” he remarked.
He also took a jab at US War Secretary Pete Hegseth, who had advocated for the blockade before Congress, adding: “P.S. For Pete Hegseth: 1 km = 0.62 mi.”

The United States imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports following the outbreak of the US-Israeli aggression on Iran on February 28.
Tehran has repeatedly denounced the move as illegal, saying it violates the ceasefire brokered by Pakistan.
Iran’s combined land and maritime borders extend over 8,700 kilometers, including coastlines along the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and the Caspian Sea.
